Ministry
The band feels its mission is to be the revolution that is taking place in this generation. The band is called to write and sing and play the songs that will bring deliverance, restoration and healing.

Bio
“Our mission is to create a revolution,” says Deborah Estes, lead singer of Unmasked. This is a bold statement, especially coming from a teenager.
While the members of Unmasked may be young, they are focused on their mission.  “Too many people talk like Christians,” says Estes.  “Our goal is to be real Christians by doing the same things that Jesus did—heal the sick, restore the broken, bring freedom to the captives.”

With such a clear vision, it is surprising that Unmasked has only been in existence for one year.  Deborah Estes (lead vocals), Chase Nicholson (guitar/vocals), Bryan Downer (keys), Michelle Power (violin/vocals), and Kyle Power (bass) came together in May 2007 to lead worship at a citywide event.  They felt such a connection that they started writing music and decided to continue to play together.  After a week of prayer and fasting, the group chose to name “Unmasked” to reflecting their desire to “unmask” every part of their lives and be pure in God’s eyes.

Unmasked realizes that they must have strong relationships with God to help them minister to others.  The band members are committed to personal prayer and Bible study individually and as a group.  They recognize their accountability to their home church and look for opportunities to serve there.  Unmasked embraces their youth and believes that their age gives them a unique ministry to their peers.    “Unmasked is a regular at our youth events,” says Courtney Knebel, Youth Pastor at North Palm Ministries. “They are not only a band, they come with the heart of Christ and cause a revolution each time. Our young people are drawn to them.“

The music of Unmasked can be described as youthful and heartfelt.  Their alternative rock sound is very worship driven.  With influences as varied as Jeff Deyo and Carlos Santana, Unmasked is definitely developing a unique sound.  The band further sets itself apart with their bi-lingual writing in both English and Spanish. With three of the five band members participating in the writing process, Unmasked is able to communicate from many different perspectives.
“Mostly we are inspired during our personal time with God,” says Estes. “The songs just are byproducts of our time with Him.”  One of their most requested songs, “Only Human,” deals with the struggle to die to our sin and be more like Christ.

Even though they are a new band, Unmasked is quickly gaining recognition in their local community and in the Christian music industry.  After being selected to perform at SHOUTFEST 2007 in Myrtle Beach, SC, Unmasked was invited to come to Nashville, TN for the SHOUTFEST Battle of the Bands Finals.  They showcased for record labels and industry representatives and received high marks from the judges.  With their strong ministry focus and growing musical talent, Unmasked is certain to create a revolution in everyone they encounter.
